Hi All,

After trying to get my web sites even noticed on searches how surprised was I today when I put in some searches and have managed to get onto the first page of a Google search depending upon the questions. Number one result searching for "the Bright Red L" when yesterday it was nowhere to be seen.

I don't know how this has happened here's some of the things I have done which might help you all get searched.

1) Put title and keywords in your HTML as meta tags.

2) Changed to submiting the web pages to Google (almost daily) as the direct URL not the domain name if they are hosted in different places. e.g. our domain names are www.thebrightredl.co.uk and www.yourveryowndrivingschool.co.uk which divert to http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.clark467/pupils/ and http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.clark467/instructors/ respectively. The homepage ones are what we submitted.

3) I joined the webring you can see on the bottom of the first page of our school site.

4) I Tried searches with questions which we want to come up in and submitted our URL to any of the directories that come up.

Feel free to look at the source if you go to the sites direct and not by the domain names to see how the meta tags work and use the same principles.

I am no expert and this all seems to be a black art but persistance over many months seems to have paid off.

Happy searching
Colin

Yes I'm not doing too well with the search engines yet. A tip I've picked up which I'm working on at the moment is to get as many links for your site on other web sites. The web crawlers see a link and follow it to see what is at the other end. The more often they come across your links the more they'll get to know you.
