Both your theory and practical test must be booked in advanced, and 'after' you have your provisional licence.

Your driving instructor will tell you when you are ready for your theory test, which you need to take before you can take your practical test.
The information we offer below is a guide and you should always confirm with your instructor, as they may already do a number of the steps for you.

The Theory Test

See the fees list below for the latest fee. Your driving school, instructor, or local test centre should have an application form, although you can book your test over the phone if you have a credit card. If you book your test over the phone, 0870 010 1372 at any time between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, Northern Ireland 0845 600 6700, you must have the following information ready:-

* Type of vehicle (Car, Motorcycle).
* If same day results service is required.
* Your choice of test centre location.
* Your test language (Bengali, Chinese, Gujerati, Hindi, Welsh, Urdu).
* Your credit card details.

A test date and time will be given, which may be changed if its unsuitable. You must give a least 3 working days notice to cancel your test.

The Practical Test

The system for booking your test over the phone is slow and expensive. 0870 numbers are not cheap. You can be on the phone for several minutes and then get cut off.

You are far better off booking your test on line. The connection won't cost you anything(if you don't pay per minute) and youcan choose from a list of times and dates without anyone rushing you on the phone.

Quite often the online booking system crashes and no-one can log on! That's the only downside. But if you want a cancelation, the best thing is to book online and not on the phone. As soon as a cancelation comes up you can reserve it.
